London’s IP Expo Experienced Significant Microsoft Presence
Traditionally, the IP Expo in London is mostly attended by VMware representatives. This year, however, it seems that Microsoft has decided to take a more active participation in the said event which covers Internet Protocol, wireless technology, virtualization, managed hosting and cloud computing.
The said expo was significant for the software giant due to the recent launch of the Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard which included Hyper-V. It was also crucial because Microsoft is also set to roll out its new cloud platform called Azure.
During the event, the company rolled out a big announcement through its Virtualization Team Blog. Windows Server and Server Virtualization General Manager Mike Neil announced that Microsoft and Red Hat have already completed the certification of their virtualization programs. Clients are now provided with the ability to deploy the Microsoft Windows Server as well as the Enterprise Linux by Red Hat as well as a range of applications that are virtualized on products run by both companies with the knowledge that all these combined solutions will gain the support of both Microsoft and Red Hat. Microsoft is also set to certify additional third-party virtualization solutions in the future.
Microsoft Marketing Communications Director Patrick O’Rourke delivered a keynote speech at the expo. The speech was entitled, ‘The Cloud Continuum: Private and Public Clouds’ and talked about how companies can select the right virtualization solution that will suit their needs. The keynote was also illustrated through a number of case studies.
Other Microsoft Partners have also attended the expo in order to promote their most recent offerings. Citrix, for instance, was highly prominent in the Microsoft stand as it demonstrated the Citrix Essentials for Hyper-V. The said solution is designed to extend the capabilities of the Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine for improved scalability.
