Shortsightedness - Clearing up the the Fog

Shortsightedness is when the eyes focus incorrectly, making far targets appear fuzzy.

If you are shortsighted, it means that you will see objects close by (reading a book) perfectly, however you can’t look at an target further away, without the image smearing. So you may find that you squint your eyes to help focus better. In fact, the technical term for near sightedness orginates from the Greek words that mean shut eye.

Jaeger charts are used to assess a woman’s near vision. A Snellen chart will be better for assessing somebody’s faraway vision. A shortsighted person will not be able to see the image from a Snellen chart with great clarity and so the letters looked fuzzy and unfocussed.

It occurs when the physical length of the eye is greater than the optical length. For this reason, Nearsightedness often develops in the rapidly growing school-aged child or teenager, and progresses during the growth years, requiring frequent alterations in glasses or contact lenses. It usually stops progressing as growth is completed in the early twenties.

Nearsightedness affects males and females equally, and those with a family history of Shortsightedness are more likely to develop it. Most eyes with Myopia are entirely healthy, but a small number of people with myopia develop a form of retinal degeneration.

If you are shortsighted, then you are likely to need to the local opticians and see whether I could get prescription glasses online. Just go to an actual optician for the prescription and request a copy of the prescriptions.
