The Theory of Relativity

Playing Texas Hold ‘Em poker can be overwhelming for a beginner. There’s so much to learn that it can be easy to forget everything you’ve learned and play like a newbie every time you sit down at the casino. The trick to not getting overwhelmed in poker is to remember the basics and pick up the nuances on the way. As you get used to the game’s up’s and down’s, you will become a better poker player, but there are a few tips to keep you from going broke along the way. One aspect of Texas Hold ‘Em that everyone should keep in mind is Theory of Relativity. The Theory of Relativity states that the value of your starting hand is relative compared to what your position is in relation to the dealer. The earlier the betting position you are in, the lower the value of your starting poker hand. The earlier you are to act, the less you know about the table action, and the riskier any bet you make will be. If you are on the button, that is, last to act, you can see how everyone else has bet already, and you can make a more informed decision, hence, less risk. Less risk means that pocket 9’s are unplayable for the player that’s first to act, but is a viable option for the button.
