Avoiding Seminar Dogs: How To Pick The Right Session To Attend
My email is overflowing with seminar information about programs at upcoming trade shows. I’m like every one else whose time is at a premium. How can I maximize my time when I am at the show? How can I stay informed with the latest innovations?
Almost every trade event now has a conference track that runs concurrently. These are usually well publicized in advance so have time to register and in most instances are able get a discount for early registration. In some cases the conference is in advance of the actual show so it doesn’t detract from time in front of the exhibitors. In any case it’s wise to plan your conference schedule as early as possible.
Look at your travel agenda and determine how much time you can set aside to attend a conference session/s. Review the program information. In most cases there will be a very diverse selection of offerings. Look to see who the session is targeting. If your title or job description is listed then it’s a good bet this is something you should attend. Check out the speakers and their
companies. Are these the people you want to meet? Can you benefit from their expertise? It’s easy to check out your speakers by doing a GOOGLE search. Type in the presenters name in quotations and see what turns up.
Is the session presenting “fresh” material or trotting out some old “has been” that hasn’t had a new thought in 20 years? Note: many of the conferences do not pay speakers; they hope that companies will provide speakers for free to promote their products and services. So it’s important to determine whether
this “content” is worthy of your time or is it just a company “advertorial.” In my opinion, most of the time these sessions aren’t worth investing your time. Watch out for “free” sessions too. Unless this is a “paid” expert hired to increase show attendance, it’s usually not worth going.
Can you access the information or material in any other way? I know in my case when I speak its based on recent research which I turn into a report that can be purchased after the event. Many times you can find an article or report for purchase that covers the same subject also. Look for sessions with information that you can’t get in any other way or ones that have a “stellar”
selection of presenters. If you can’t attend a particular session, find out if it will be repeated or how you can access the information after the event.
See how long the session will be and at what time of day. Can you combine a session with your lunch break? Breakfast sessions have now become very popular. Why not eat and learn at the same time? Is the information something that can benefit others in your organization? Get some brownie points by coming back with valuable insights.
If you have no reference point for any of the sessions, look to see who is a sponsor. Is it a company that has a good reputation or a trade organization that you respect? You can always call them and ask about the speakers or the event. You can even complain to them if the speaker is a “dog.” So whatever seminar you decide to attend be sure and plan early and maximize your time at the event.

Watches have evolved over the centuries and become almost a necessity. There are many types of watches all with different functions. If you are looking for a watch there are a few things to keep in mind. Your budget is important here. The amount you can spend on a watch will dictate what type of watch and what features or functions you will be able to have. Watches can range in price from $2.00 or $3.00 all the way up to thousands of dollars and more.
An analog watch is a watch that has hands. There may be a second hand or not. The second hand moves in continuous sweeping motion. Some second hands will move in two second intervals to indicate the batteries need to be replaced. Digital watches have the time displayed in numerals. Digital watches are very popular.
An LCD watch uses liquid crystal display to show the time. The numbers are usually gray or black on a lighter background. An LED watch uses a diode that emanates light. There is usually a button to push to display the time. The numbers in the display are red in color.

This creates a better water tight seal. The band is made of rubber or similar material because the salt water won’t cause deterioration.
Functions on watches include calendars, time zones, stop watches, and alarms. Many have the option of being set to standard or military time. Still others have indigo lights that when a button is pressed will light up and make the numbers more visible. This is especially good in a hospital or nursing home setting where you need the light to read the second hand while checking pulses. There are some watches that have removable face plates so that you can have your watch match what you are wearing. The shape of a watch can be almost any shape as well such a round or rectangular. There are ring watches and pendant watches. Pocket watches are making a come back as well.
The bands on watches are as varied in material and design as the watches themselves. There are metal bands that stretch, there are bands made of material similar to the straps on backpacks and that fasten with Velcro. There are bands of cloth, hemp, metal links and bands that come in one or two pieces.

Cats are naturally clean creatures. Teaching them to use the
litter box encourages this good behavior. They will continue to
use this litter box unless it gets dirty. Here are a few tips on
getting your cat to use the litter box all of the time.
Pick out a litter box that would be right for you and your cat.
There are various types of litter box’s, there are big ones and
small ones there is also a automatic cleaning box that has a
rake that rakes the dirty litter in a storage bag. Some people
use the disposable litter box’s that come with the litter
already inside so you don’t have to mess with the litter.
Finding the right cat litter is something you can do easily.
There are a lot of different types of cat litter; there are
scented litter and non scented litter. There is also litter that
will clump up after your cat does his/her deed making it easier
to scoop up. You should change your cats litter box at least
every other day to keep your house smelling fresh and clean.
Finding the right cat litter your cat likes can take a while.
Your cat may not like a change in the type of litter you have in
their box and this will cause them to go in unwanted places as
well.
Picking out the right type of cat food can make a difference in
training your cats. Remember cat food is for cats not dogs and
dog food is for dogs not kitties. There are many types of cat
food there is dry food, soft food and canned food. Try not to
give your cats milk we all know they like it but it also leaves

you can also use some of these foods as a treat to reward your

If you play with your cat 15 minutes before it eats and then let
the cat eat. You will be able to judge when your cat will be
ready to go into the litter box. Not letting the cat leave the
litter box area when you know their bladder is full, will help
the cat realize what it is that you are trying to teach them to

while. Your cat may not like a change in the type of litter you
have in their box and this will cause them to go in unwanted
places as well.
How to toilet train your cats. First make sure the litter box is
in a safe and clean area and away from lots of traffic but be
sure your cats have access to it. Make sure cats also know where
the litter box is often showing him/her. If you have more than
one cat make sure you have more than one litter box cats don’t
like to share the same.
Also make sure the litter box is cleaned once a day. There is a
scoop you can use to scoop out the soiled litter. You should put
in about 1 inch of litter in the box is plenty. Never yell or
hit your cats if he/she has an accident just simply tell her no
and place her in the litter box.
Do not place the litter box near his/her food. Cats do not like
to eat in the same place they have urinated. Never clean the
litter box if you are pregnant because it contains toxoplasmosis
in the fecal witch could cause harm to your baby. Cats will
urinate on clean places such as your couch or carpet when they
have a dirty litter box. Making sure that it is clean is very
important in training your cat.
Cats need attention and sometimes will leave deposits of
unwanted urine and feces in places, due to lack of attention. If
your cat feels neglected they will get mad and do things to make
you pay attention to them. You should spend daily time with your
cat to make them feel loved and wanted. They will respond much
better when you take the time to show them attention.
Male cats should be neutered as they like to spray to mark
their territory. So you should make sure that they are neutered
so they don’t make any more mess. You can use vinegar and water
to make the smell go away. You can use half water and half
vinegar to clean this up. This will keep your cat from returning
to that spot to use again.

Welding has been around for centuries, though not in the forms most commonly used today. One of the first welding processes ever used was known as forge welding. Forge welding attempts to join two metals through a process of heating, and then pounding and striking. It’s what blacksmiths did. As you can guess from the history of welding, the ability to join two or more pieces of metal together in a strong bond has been fundamental in our advancements in all areas of life, from housing to transportation; from manufacturing to repairs. Understanding welding basics can come in handy at work, but it will just as often come in handy around the house, in the workshop or on the farm. Because of this, welding is a skill that almost anyone can benefit from, male or female, young or old.

If you own any equipment or machinery that is metal, welding will certainly serve as a useful skill. Some typical goals of a welding job include:
• Fixing stress cracks

Minimize Your Risk
While arc welding isn’t incredibly complicated, there are a few risks and hazards that you should be aware of:
1. Exposure to radiation
2. Flying sparks (in the form of globs of molten metal)
3. Electric Shock
4. Fumes
5. Damage to your eyes, and
6. Burns
However, by wearing protective clothing and specialized welding helmets and other gear, you can greatly reduce the inherent risks of welding. Here are a few other tips to help keep you safe while arc welding:
• Make sure to work on a dry floor. Wear thick rubber shoes and dry leather welding gloves.
• Be sure to use insulated electrode holders.
• Check to make sure that your equipment is all properly grounded.
• Keep your work area properly ventilated to avoid inhaling any potentially toxic fumes.
• Be on the look out for flying bits of melted metal.
• Most importantly, be aware of any other people who are around you. If they aren’t wearing the proper gear, then keep them away from your project.
This will get you started welding safely - one of the most important things when learning a new craft.
